TEDxPraça Gil Eanes is an independently organised TEDx event in the heart of Lagos, Algarve, bringing together Portuguese and international speakers from science, culture, technology, the arts, and everyday life to share ideas shaped by research, creativity, and lived experience.
On 15 May 2027, we’ll host our third annual TEDx event, TEDxPraça Gil Eanes: Befriending the Unknown.

TEDxPraça Gil Eanes Salon: Pitch Night
THE EVENT
What makes an idea worth sharing, and what makes a great speaker? On 21 November 2026, we’re bringing a special TEDx Salon to Domes Lake Algarve in Vilamoura, built around fresh ideas, public speaking and a little friendly competition.
Eight finalists will be selected from our speaker applications and given just three minutes each to pitch their idea live. A jury will narrow the field, then the audience will help decide who moves forward towards our main TEDx event in May 2027.

Befriending
the Unknown
Life has always rewarded those willing to step into the unknown.
As humans, we are wired for safety. We seek certainty, familiarity, and control. The unknown can feel uncomfortable, even frightening, because it asks us to move beyond what we already understand. Yet almost every meaningful transformation in history began with someone choosing curiosity over fear.
The greatest breakthroughs in science, technology, philosophy, and art happened because someone dared to question what was known and explore what was not. Every discovery first existed as uncertainty.
Today, the unknown still surrounds us. The future is uncertain. Technology is reshaping society. Our identities, relationships, careers, and ways of living continue to evolve. We cannot eliminate uncertainty from life, but we can change our relationship with it.
Only when we stop resisting the unknown and begin befriending it do we create space for growth, discovery, creativity, and transformation.

About TED and TEDx
In the spirit of discovering and spreading ideas, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
Our event is called TEDxPraça Gil Eanes, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxPraça Gil Eanes event, TED Talks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
